Running After The Dream

My daddy left home when I was ten
But you see him in my face all over again.
Mother on the stairs with tears in her eyes
A cold wind blowing in the clear summer skies.

Now My mother had to work nearly all the time
But we never had money, you could call it a crime
I used to stay home alone 'till she came back late
It used to make me cry, it used to make her heart break.

You know life's never like what your mother told you
Take a look at your friends, you know they bought and sold you
But when you're running after the dream
It isn't as hard as it seems

I've got a load to lug and a heavy head
Thinking of the things that my mother said.
Now the snow is coming and it's cold outside
Try to live your live but don't be denied.

I'm gonna hitch me a ride down London way
Run to the city, try to make it pay.
Now I'm singing a capella with my backpack on
Cos you can't sell your voice but my guitar's gone.

You know life's never like what your mother told you
Take a look at your friends, you know they bought and sold you
But when you're running after the dream
It isn't as hard as it seems
